THURSDAY: (ELA8W2.b&d Students develop a controlling idea with relevant detail.) Today the students were given two large index cards and asked to write two body paragraphs as we continue to work on the re-write of the August Benchmark Assessment. They were given feedback as they wrote, however, this was an opportunity for them to push themselves to come up with their own ideas pertaining to the topic.
Some students were given extra practice with fragments and run-ons. This is in preparation for retaking last Friday's quiz.
HOMEWORK: Complete a total of three body paragraphs for the re-write. These should include effective topic sentences, sufficient use of EDD, transitions, and effective closing sentences. If the student was in class today, two of the paragraphs should be written on index cards and one is on notebook paper. If a student was not in class today, all three paragraphs can be on notebook paper.
LAST NIGHT'S HOMEWORK (write a body paragraph) COUNTS AS THE PARAGRAPH WRITTEN ON NOTEBOOK PAPER.
FRIDAY: Today, students will turn in their DGP. Some students will retake last Friday's quiz. Everyone will be given time to confer with the teacher regarding one of their body paragraphs. Time will be provided in class to read and identify vivid verbs in the books they are reading independently.
