THURSDAY: After completing today's DGP, the students worked with a partner to determine which of eight statements were facts about year-round schooling and which were fiction. The students identified the words or phrases in the statements that made them sound realistic. As a class, we connected these words and phrases to the elements of persuasive writing we had discussed on Wednesday. Students also had an opportunity to revise statements that were not considered realistic. These were put into their "Writer's Journals," and we will continue practice with this activity next week.

FRIDAY: The students had a substitute in the classroom today. They used a T-chart to compare and contrast two characters from the piece of literature "Flowers for Algernon" to the same two characters in the film version of the story. This T-chart and the DGP were collected for a classwork grade which will be entered in Pinnacle next week.
READING ACTIVITY #4 IS DUE 11/7/11. Students have had three weeks to work on this assignment.
