WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY: The students continued to read, take notes, and reflect on the story "Flowers for Algernon." We discussed how the note taking we have done so far is level one of Costa's Levels of Questioning. We have gathered information by observing, describing, and identifying. Tonight's homework requires the students to move to the second level of questioning by explaining why an event is important to the story. They can select any event they have written about in their notes and explain in two sentences why they think it is important to the overall story. They must also recognize an "A-ha" moment from the last two days' readings. This is a moment when they gained a new understanding of the story or their connection to it.
HW: Answer two questions on the bottom of your note taking sheet.
