Ms. Baker

Over the last 11 years, Ms. Baker has worked with middle school students in Cobb County teaching language arts and media literacy. She currently teaches 6th grade language arts. In 1998, Ms. Baker completed her Bachelors in Middle Grades Education and in 2004 her Master's in Curriculum and Technology. Once she caught the back to school bug, she completed her Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and School Administration in 2006. In the summers, Ms. Baker leads students in travel through the People to People Student Ambassador Program. She has visited many places including China, England, Europe, and Australia and is looking forward to visiting Japan in 2009. Ms. Baker enjoys music, movies and her friends.

Ms. Barksdale

Ms. Barksdale is team 6B's Reading teacher. She has taught Language Arts/Reading for six years in Baltimore, Maryland and this is beginning her fourth year teaching in Cobb County. Ms. Barksdale earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in English and certificate for Secondary Education from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She has completed Cambridge College's Master's program for Library Teacher. It is obvious that Ms. Barksdale has a love of reading and wishes to foster that same love of reading in children. Helping to ensure that Barber Middle School's fourth year is even greater that its first is at the top of Ms. Barksdale's priority list. She is looking forward to working with your children this year so that their first year in middle school will be a great success.

Ms. Rains

I have a passion for learning and hope that it is contagious in our classroom! I love to interact with other people, be outside enjoying nature and sports, read current events and historical fiction, and travel... so teaching Reading and World Studies is a perfect fit for me. I believe that every learner can be a shining S.T.A.R. What does that mean? S.T.A.R. is an acronym for Scholar, Thinker, Achiever, and Risk-taker. Just ask my husband and three children whom I also challenge to be S.T.A.R.'s! A goal I have set for myself is to visit as many countries in the continents I teach as I can. I still have a long way to go to reach my goal but it is fun to look forward. I hope to give students an engaging, real world, and thought-provoking classroom where our goal is to be S.T.A.R.'s!

Ms. Sullivan

Ms. Sullivan has been a social studies teacher in Cobb County for the past eight years. Throughout her career Ms. Sullivan has served as team leader, coordinator of the Renaissance Program, and mentor of both students and teachers. Ms. Sullivan earned her Bachelors degree from the University of Georgia and graduated in May 2008 with her Masters degree from Kennesaw State University. Ms. Sullivan is very excited about helping students foster the skills needed to ensure a smooth transition into middle school!

Ms. Talley

Ms. Courtney Talley has been teaching at Barber Middle School for four years. She currently teaches 6th grade Earth Science. This is Ms. Talley's 5th year teaching overall. Before coming to Barber Middle School, she taught 6th grade science at Awtrey Middle School. Ms. Talley is a graduate from North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, GA. There she received her Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education. She then went on to complete her masters at Troy University in Instructional Technology in 2008. She is looking forward to this new and wonderful year.

Ms. Walker

Mrs. Walker was born in Dalton, GA and graduated from Northwest Whitfield High School. She moved to this area to attend Kennesaw State University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 2001. She returned to KSU and obtained Master's degree in 2007. She worked at Awtrey Middle School for 5 years before joining the Barber staff in 2005 to teach Math 6. She and her husband, Michael, have been married for 3 years. She has one son who was born in March 2007 and one stepson who is a Senior at North Cobb. She also has four nieces who are very special to her.
